New Hwy 25 bridge open to all travelers in Brainerd
BAXTER, Minn. – The Minnesota Department of Transportation is excited to announce the new Highway 25 bridge over the Burlington Northern Santa Fe Railway line between Highway 210 and Highway 18 in Brainerd, Crow Wing County, is open to all travelers.
The closure and seven-month detour were necessary to allow crews to remove and replace the old bridge with a new, wider bridge over the railroad tracks between 10th Avenue NE and Red Pine Road; resurface the road north and south of the bridge; and add right-turn lanes to Red Pine Road and 28th Street E.
Motorists may encounter minimal lane or shoulder closures with flaggers as crews remove traffic control devices and wrap up work for the season. Watch for workers and equipment, and be prepared to stop or slow down.
MnDOT thanks the Brainerd Lakes community and traveling public for their continued patience during construction.
In spring, crews will return to pave the multi-use trail along the west side of Highway 25 from 10th Avenue NE over the new bridge to 28th Street E, establish turf and complete any other work.
When complete, travelers will benefit from a new bridge to last up to 75 years, a smoother road surface, and improved safety and access.
