Overnight closures of I-35W at the I-494 interchange in Bloomington/Richfield begin Jan. 8

ROSEVILLE, Minn. – Beginning Monday, Jan. 8, the Minnesota Department of Transportation will close southbound Interstate 35W overnight at the I-35W/I-494 interchange in Bloomington/Richfield. MnDOT will also close northbound I-35W overnight at the interchange starting Tuesday, Jan. 9. These closures are necessary so crews can set bridge beams for a new turbine ramp.

Southbound I-35W overnight closure

Beginning at 10 p.m. Monday, Jan. 8, southbound I-35W will be closed at the I-35W/I-494 interchange through 5 a.m. Tuesday, Jan. 9. While this closure is in place, motorists will be detoured to westbound I-494 to southbound Hwy 100 to eastbound I-494 to southbound I-35W. During this closure, the following lanes and ramp will also be closed:

8 p.m. Monday, Jan. 8 through 6 a.m. Tuesday, Jan. 9:

Southbound I-35W will be reduced to one lane between 66th St. in Richfield and I-494.

9 p.m. Monday, Jan. 8 through 5 a.m. Tuesday, Jan. 9:

The ramp from westbound I-494 to southbound I-35W will be closed.

10 p.m. Monday, Jan. 8 through 5 a.m. Tuesday, Jan. 9:

The ramp from southbound I-35W to eastbound I-494 will be closed.

12 a.m. through 6 a.m. Tuesday, Jan. 9:

Northbound I-35W will be reduced to one lane between 90th St. in Bloomington and 76th St. in Richfield.

Northbound I-35W overnight closure

Beginning at 10 p.m. Tuesday, Jan. 9, northbound I-35W will be closed at the I-35W/I-494 interchange through 5 a.m. Wednesday, Jan. 10. While this closure is in place, motorists will be detoured to eastbound I-494 to northbound Hwy 77 to westbound Hwy 62 to northbound I-35W. During this closure, the following lanes and ramps will also be closed:

9 p.m. Tuesday, Jan. 9 through 6 a.m. Wednesday, Jan. 10:

Northbound I-35W will be reduced to one lane between 90th St. in Bloomington and I-494 in Richfield.

9 p.m. Tuesday, Jan. 9 through 6 a.m. Wednesday, Jan. 10:

The ramp from 82nd St. to northbound I-35W will be closed.

9 p.m. Tuesday, Jan. 9 through 5 a.m. Wednesday, Jan. 10:

The ramp from eastbound I-494 to northbound I-35W will be closed.

10 p.m. Tuesday, Jan. 9 through 5 a.m. Wednesday, Jan. 10:

The ramp from northbound I-35W to westbound I-494 will be closed.

Motorists are urged to plan ahead and allow extra time to reach their destination. All construction activities and traffic impacts are weather and schedule permitting and subject to change. MnDOT urges motorists to always be attentive, drive with caution, and slowdown in work zones where workers are present.
