MnDOT to host April 18 open house in Clarkfield for Highway 67 reconstruction project

WILLMAR, Minn. – The Minnesota Department of Transportation invites the public to attend an in-person construction open house on Thursday, April 18, to learn about the upcoming Highway 67 reconstruction project in Clarkfield. The open house will be held from 4:00 to 6:00 p.m. at Clarkfield City Hall, 904 10th Ave.

There are no formal presentations and people are invited to stop by at their convenience during open house hours. MnDOT staff and the contractor will be available to answer questions about the construction phase of the project, including the timeline and detours.

Project summary

Beginning May 6, MnDOT will be reconstructing Highway 67, from Highway 59 to 6th Street in Clarkfield. Storm sewer replacement is included in the project. In addition, sidewalks will be replaced, and pedestrian ramps installed to meet Americans with Disabilities standards. Alongside the MnDOT project, BNSF Railway will be replacing track through the intersection of Highway 59 and Highway 67.

Two detours are required to complete the projects (see attached maps). The Highway 59 detour begins May 6 and will be in place until BNSF Railway has replaced the track and the roadway has been restored.

The Highway 67 detour will begin at the conclusion of the Highway 59 detour and will be in place for the remainder of the MnDOT project, which is expected to conclude Nov 1.

Project benefits and cost

Benefits of the project include a smoother road surface, improved storm sewer system, updated pedestrian crossings, as well as a state and city infrastructure that will continue to serve their purpose for many years. R and G Construction is the contractor, and the project cost is approximately $4.7 million.
