Rescheduled: Hwy 55/Hiawatha Avenue and Lake Street ramp closures in Minneapolis begin April 17
ROSEVILLE, Minn. – Starting on Wednesday, Apr. 17 through October 2024, the Minnesota Department of Transportation will close the ramps to and from Highway 55/Hiawatha Avenue and Lake Street in Minneapolis.
These closures, originally scheduled to begin Monday, Apr. 15, are necessary so construction crews can begin work redesigning the intersection at Highway 55/Hiawatha Avenue and Lake Street to better accommodate pedestrians and bicyclists and make accessibility improvements. Lake Street will also be reduced to a single lane in each direction between 21st Avenue and Snelling Avenue for the same duration.
While these ramp and lane closures are in place, motorists traveling northbound on Highway 55/Hiawatha Avenue can use eastbound 32nd Street to northbound Minnehaha Avenue to westbound Lake Street as a detour. Motorists traveling southbound on Highway 55/Hiawatha Avenue can use westbound 26th Street to southbound Cedar Avenue to eastbound Lake Street as a detour route.
Motorists traveling from Lake Street to northbound Highway 55/Hiawatha Avenue can use northbound 26th Avenue South to northbound Minnehaha Avenue to westbound 26th Street as a detour. Motorists can also use westbound Lake Street to southbound Cedar Avenue to eastbound 32nd Street as a detour from Lake Street to southbound Highway 55/Hiawatha Avenue.
All construction activities and traffic impacts are weather and schedule permitting and subject to change. The Minnesota Department of Transportation urges motorists to always be attentive, drive with caution, and slowdown in work zones where workers are present.
