Hwy 67 Clarkfield reconstruction project begins May 6

WILLMAR, Minn. – The Minnesota Department of Transportation will begin the Highway 67 Clarkfield reconstruction project on May 6. Highway 67 will be reconstructed from Highway 59 to 6th Street and storm sewer replacement is included in the project. Sidewalks will also be replaced and pedestrian ramps installed to meet Americans with Disabilities Act standards. In addition to the Highway 67 project, BNSF Railway notified MnDOT that they will be replacing track through the intersection of Highway 67 and Highway 59 at some point during the MnDOT project.
Work is expected to conclude Nov. 1. Construction dates are subject to change depending on weather and other unforeseeable circumstances.

Traffic impacts
Two detours are required to complete the MnDOT projects (see attached maps). Access will be available to homes and businesses along the project route.

  • The Highway 59 detour begins May 6 and will be in place two to three weeks.
  • The Highway 67 detour will begin at the conclusion of the Highway 59 detour and will be in place for the remainder of the MnDOT project.
  • The added BNSF Railway project will require a separate detour of the Highway 67 and Highway 59 intersection. When MnDOT receives their project schedule, we will communicate the timeline and detour to the traveling public.

Project benefits and cost
Benefits of the project include a smoother road surface, improved storm sewer system and drainage, updated pedestrian crossings, as well as a state and city infrastructure that will continue to serve their purpose for many years. R and G Construction is the contractor, and the project cost is approximately $4.7 million.
