Additional I-94 lane and ramp closures in Washington County begin May 1

Highway 95/St. Croix Trail closure begins May 2

ROSEVILLE, Minn. – Motorists will encounter road and lane closures on Interstate 94 in Lakeland starting May 1 as the Minnesota Department of Transportation prepares to pave both directions of I-94 between Highway 95/St. Croix Trail and the St. Croix River. The pavement resurfacing is part of the I-94 Oakdale to Lakeland construction project.

Beginning at 9 p.m. on Wednesday, May 1, both directions of I-94 will be reduced to a single lane from just west of Highway 95/St. Croix Trail to the middle of the river bridge. The overnight lane closures are necessary to allow construction crews to shift traffic. Then at 5 a.m. on Thursday, May 2, both directions of I-94 will have two travel lanes until late June. Motorists traveling on I-94 beyond the I-94/Highway 95/St. Croix Trail interchange can use either lane and follow the posted signs to stay on I-94.

A section of Highway 95/St. Croix Trail under the I-94 bridges will also close to traffic at 5 a.m. on Thursday, May 2 until early June. The Hwy 95/St. Croix Trail closure is necessary to keep motorists safe while construction crews work on this section of I-94.

Motorists trying to go northbound on St. Croix Trail can bypass the closure using eastbound I-94, Carmichael Road, westbound I-94 and northbound Highway 95. Motorists heading southbound on Highway 95 should use westbound I-94, Manning Avenue, eastbound I-94 and St. Croix Trail to bypass the road closure.

Finally, beginning at 5 a.m. on Thursday, May 2 through mid-June, the following I-94 ramps in Woodbury will close for repaving:

Westbound I-94 ramp to Radio Drive/Inwood Avenue N

Detour: westbound I-94, Keats Avenue N/Woodbury Drive, Hudson Road and Radio Drive

Radio Drive/Inwood Avenue N ramp to westbound I-94

Detour: Radio Drive/Inwood Avenue N, Hudson Boulevard, Keats Avenue N and westbound I-94

All construction activities and traffic impacts are weather dependent and subject to change. MnDOT urges motorists to always be attentive, drive with caution and slow down in work zones where workers are present.

MnDOT is resurfacing the pavement and making other improvements to I-94 between Highway 120/Century Avenue and the St. Croix River through fall 2024. The work will improve safety, traffic flow and ride smoothness.
