Northbound Hwy 65 weekend closure scheduled May 3-6 in East Bethel

ROSEVILLE, Minn. – Culvert replacement in East Bethel will require a closure of northbound Highway 65 this weekend to allow crews to safely replace two culverts that cross beneath the highway north of Klondike Drive.

Beginning 10 p.m. Fri, May 3, northbound Highway 65 will be closed between just north of Klondike Dr. and 205th Ave. through 6 a.m. Mon, May 6. Motorists who plan to travel in the area will need to use the following detours during the closure:

  • Northbound Hwy 65 detour: West on Viking Blvd., north on Anoka Co. Rd. 13/Cedar Dr. Northwest and east on Anoka Co. Rd. 74 to Hwy 65
  • Westbound Klondike Dr. detour: South on East Bethel Blvd. and west on Viking Blvd. to continue on the northbound Hwy 65 detour

During the weekend closure, the following traffic movements will be allowed:

  • Northbound Hwy 65 will be able to turn east on Klondike Dr.
  • Southbound Hwy 65 will be able to travel east or west on Klondike Dr. and continue south on Hwy 65
  • Eastbound Klondike Dr. will be able to use the J-turn south of Klondike Dr. to continue east.
  • Local traffic and business access will be open between Viking Blvd. and Klondike Dr.

In case of inclement weather, this weekend’s work will be postponed to a later date and we will let everyone know!

NOTE: Drivers who regularly use Highway 65, are encouraged to use an alternate route if possible, such as I-35W or Highway 47 to avoid congestion and delays.

Resurfacing, repairs and bridge replacement on more than 19 miles of Highway 65 between Anoka County Road 10 in Spring Lake Park and 237th Avenue in East Bethel began Monday, April 8th. Additionally, the project will replace bridges with box culverts at Coon Creek in Ham Lake and replace culverts south of Viking Boulevard in East Bethel and north of Constance Boulevard and make full-depth pavement repairs to correct areas of settlement. Crews also will install high-tension cable median barrier between Bunker Lake Boulevard and 237th Avenue, improve drainage, and install curb ramp and sidewalk improvements at several intersections along with traffic signal replacement at 85th Avenue and 93rd Avenue in Blaine.

The project will be completed by late fall of 2024.
All construction activities and traffic impacts are weather and schedule permitting and subject to change.
