MnDOT, Grand Portage Tribal Nation host dual language sign ceremony May 16

DULUTH, Minn. – The Grand Portage Band of Lake Superior Chippewa and the Minnesota Department of Transportation have worked closely to install dual language signage along Hwy 61 from Grand Marais to the Canadian border. The public is invited to a ceremonial unveiling of the signs on Thursday, May 16, at 11 a.m. at Manidoo-bimaadagaakowinii-ziibi (Devil Track River), just east of reference post 113.

The Stonebridge Drum Group will be present, and speakers will talk about development of the dual language signs and how the two governments partnered on this project. The signs will mark Manidoo-bimaadagaakowinii (Devil Track), Gaa-bibigwewanashkokaag (Flute Reed), Wiisaakode (Brule), Mashkiigwagamaa (Reservation) and Omiimii (Pigeon) rivers and the Grand Portage Reservation boundary.
