Traffic changes on the Hwy 14 Minnesota River bridge project begin May 20, weather permitting, as construction moves to Stage 2
Ramp restrictions and head-to-head traffic begin
MANKATO, Minn. – Weather permitting, the second stage of the construction on the Highway 14 Minnesota River Bridge project in Mankato is expected to begin Monday, May 20, according to the Minnesota Department of Transportation.
Traffic will be in a head-to-head configuration in the eastbound lanes from east of Lookout Drive to 3rd Avenue starting May 20. The westbound Highway 14 ramps to Highway 169 will be closed, and northbound Highway 169 at Highway 14 will be reduced to one lane. The westbound Highway 14 ramps at Lor Ray and Lookout Drive will be open for Highway 169 to westbound Highway 14 traffic only. The speed limit in the work zone will be reduced to 55 MPH. The second stage of construction is anticipated for about three weeks. (see attached map)
Motorists are advised that traffic delays and congestion are expected, especially during peak travel times. Drivers are encouraged to be patient and pay attention traveling through the work zone. Motorists should find alternative routes, change travel times to avoid peak traffic periods, or plan for extra travel time. With the ramp closures at Highway 14/169, motorists may also consider using Highway 22 from Mankato to St. Peter as an alternate route.
Work on the Highway 14 Minnesota River bridge is a concrete mill and overlay preventative maintenance project to extend the life of the bridge. The project is expected to be complete in mid-July, weather permitting.

Head-to head-traffic in the westbound lanes. The Highway 169 ramps to eastbound Highway 14 will be closed. The entrance ramp at Lookout Drive to eastbound Highway 14 will be closed. The entrance ramp at Lor Ray Drive to eastbound Highway 14 will be open for access to Highway 169 only. The anticipated duration is three weeks.
Stage 4
Shoulder and lane closures for approximately two weeks.

Benefits of the project include improved pavement for a smoother bridge surface and increased safety. PCiRoads was awarded the project with a bid of $1,679,992.74.
