Westbound Interstate 90 lane closed for bridge approach repairs on Nodine Hill

DAKOTA, Minn. — Westbound Interstate 90 motorists should slow down and move over as Minnesota Department of Transportation bridge maintenance crews repair a bridge approach panel at Winona County Road 101.

Repair work on the approach panel to the bridge is in the right lane. Motorists will be alerted in advance and should move over. Crews expect to finish work by Friday. If they are done sooner, they will reopen the lane at that time. The work is being done in Winona County on I-90 just west of the split with Highway 61.

The Minnesota Mover Over Law states:

  • When traveling on a road with two or more lanes, drivers must keep over one full lane away from stopped emergency vehicles with flashing lights activated — ambulance, fire, law enforcement, maintenance, construction vehicles and tow trucks.
  • Reduce speed if unable to safely move over a lane.
  • As of July 1, 2023, the law was expanded to include stalled or disabled vehicles with lights flashing, or if at least one person is visibly present outside the vehicle.
  • Failing to take these actions endangers personnel who provide critical and life-saving services. Fines can exceed $100.

Safety
Drivers traveling too fast and not paying attention are the main causes of work zone crashes. Follow these safe driving tips:

  • Obey posted speed limits. The fine for speeding in a work zone is $300.
  • Drive undistracted. Avoid using phones, mobile devices, adjusting the radio – even eating – while in work zones.
  • Move over. Give workers room to safely complete their work.
  • Be patient. Expect delays, especially during peak travel times.
  • Avoid making unnecessary lane changes.
  • Never enter a road blocked with barriers or cones.
  • Expect work zones to constantly change. Day to day you could experience lane shifts, closures, narrower lanes, moving workers and vehicles.
