Project Manager Newsletter
January 2026
Welcome to the first newsletter of 2026. Typically, this is a time for all of us to look forward to a new year and determine new goals, however that has been difficult for me given the current situation in the world around us.
The Hwy 252/I-94 study team is hearing directly from local partners, residents and neighborhood organizations. Some people do not feel safe in their own neighborhoods or even leaving their homes amid the federal government’s immigration enforcement. MnDOT is closely monitoring conditions following the tragic deaths of two Minneapolis residents. We have had to adapt to this ever-changing environment and are prioritizing safety of attendees for our public engagement events.
We are committed to continuing our public engagement in the coming months and we hope we can gather in person. The project team is very concerned about your safety at these events, so please make sure to stay tuned to email updates.
That said, we do have a virtual event coming up Thu, Jan. 29. This is our next table talk to present our preliminary results on air quality. You can go to our meetings webpage and register for this event.
This environmental study has some milestones coming up in 2026. We are anticipating the publication of the draft environmental impact statement (EIS) this fall. The draft EIS will identify the preferred alternative for Hwy 252 and I-94. Once the draft EIS is published, there will be a 45-day public comment period. The final EIS and record of decision will follow the draft EIS about 6 months later.
If you have any questions or comments for me, as always, feel free to go to the contacts webpage and email the project email address or type in your questions/comments in the form.
Stay safe and warm.
