Highway 59 in-town detour in Pelican Rapids to switch June 10
Roundabout at Highway 59/Highway 108 will open for east/west cross street traffic
DETROIT LAKES, Minn.—On Monday, June 10, weather permitting, crews will switch the in-town detour route for local traffic on Highway 59 in Pelican Rapids as construction progresses into Stage 1B, according to the Minnesota Department of Transportation.
Highway 59 is currently closed between the Pelican River bridge and Fourth Avenue Southeast. When crews move into Stage 1B on Monday, the closure on Highway 59 will extend through Fifth Avenue South, and the detour route will be adjusted south to First Street Southwest and 10th Avenue Southwest. With Fifth Avenue closed, east/west traffic will use the new roundabout at Highway 59 and Highway 108/West Mill as the cross street in town; however, Highway 59 will remain closed north and south of the roundabout as work in Stage 1A continues in that area.
Pelican Rapids businesses are open during construction. Residents and visitors should follow the signed detours for navigation in-town, both for motorists and pedestrians.
Highway 59 and Highway 108 thru-traffic and truck detour routes also remain in place, and vary depending on direction of travel.

All construction activities and traffic impacts are weather dependent and subject to change. MnDOT urges motorists to always be attentive, drive with caution and slow down in work zones where workers are present.
