Update: Road closures continue across northeastern Minnesota

DULUTH, Minn. (1:27 p.m.) – The Minnesota Department of Transportation is continuing to closely monitor road conditions after heavy rainstorms passed through northeastern Minnesota. The following highway has now reopened:

Hwy 1 (MP 318.5) between Knotty Pine Drive and Mitiwan Lake Road (32 miles east of Ely). The road has reopened with a temporary gravel fix.

As of Friday, June 21, the following highway remains closed:

Highway 1 (MP 293.7) between Pyhola Road and Little Lake Road (6 miles east of Ely). The road has washed out and a detour is in place.

MnDOT staff are continuing to do damage inspections and conduct temporary repairs. Motorists should use caution where shoulders may be washed out and should not drive around barriers closing off roads. 511mn.org will continue to be updated with the latest conditions.
