Overnight traffic delays expected on Hwy 61 in Red Wing over Withers Harbor Drive June 24-26
RED WING, Minn. – Motorists near Highway 61 bridge at Withers Harbor in Red Wing may encounter overnight traffic delays June 24-26 while construction crews place beams on the new bridge, according to the Minnesota Department of Transportation.
On Monday, June 24, crews will be setting beams from 7 p.m. to 7 a.m. Traffic will remain open during the work, but the brief delays will occur as trucks arrive with the beams and when the beams are lifted by crane and placed on the new bridge. Traffic will be stopped in both directions at that time for up to 15 minutes. Similar work will occur the next two nights, depending on the weather.
Additionally, Withers Harbor Drive will be closed and detoured on June 25. The road underneath the bridge will remain closed through July 17. It may open on weekends if work allows.
The two-year project is replacing the Hwy 61 bridge over Withers Harbor Dr. and Hay Creek in Red Wing. Crews are also reconstructing the approaches to the bridge from Bench St. to Withers Harbor Dr. and making other road improvements.
The project is expected to be completed in the fall of 2024.
