I-35 traffic changes begin July 22 at Faribault as construction progresses
FARIBAULT, Minn. – Motorists traveling on Interstate 35 will be moved from the southbound lanes to the northbound lanes beginning July 22 as the concrete paving work progresses at Faribault, according to the Minnesota Department of Transportation.
The contractor is planning to start making the following traffic changes Monday evening, July 22, and is expecting to finish the changes by Tuesday evening, July 23.
- I-35 traffic will be moved into northbound lanes. I-35 southbound and northbound traffic will each travel in a single lane, adjacent to each other.
- I-35 southbound on-ramps from Highway 21 and Highway 60 will be closed. Traffic will be detoured to use the on-ramp from Rice County Road 48.
- I-35 southbound off-ramp to Highway 60 will be closed. Traffic will exit at Highway 21 southbound to Highway 60.
Motorists should be alert for possible traffic slowdowns and backups, especially Friday-Sunday and other peak times. Signs are in place ahead of the work zone to warn of traffic slow downs and the approaching work zone.
The work at the I-35 northbound off-ramps to Highways 21 and 60 is scheduled to be finished by July 23 and the ramps will reopen to traffic. The ramps have been closed since June 14.
This is part of the 2-year project that started in 2023. Work includes resurfacing 4.6 miles of I-35 in Rice County and improving ramps and bridges. To learn more about this project, go to MnDOT’s website where you can also sign up for email and text message updates.
