Portion of Highway 59, south of Highway 108 east, reopens in Pelican Rapids

Progress continues north of the Pelican River through Fifth Avenue NW

DETROIT LAKES, Minn.—The south portion of Highway 59 in the city of Pelican Rapids, from the new roundabout at Highway 108 east/West Mill to Fifth Avenue Southeast, has been reopened to all traffic, according to the Minnesota Department of Transportation. Over the next few weeks, crews will be wrapping up work in this area, referred to as Stages 1A and 1B, so motorists should expect to encounter workers and occasional lane closures.

North of the Highway 59/Highway 108 east intersection, Highway 59 remains closed through the Highway 108 west intersection up to Fifth Avenue Northeast for Stages 1C and 2A of the project. The in-town traffic detour follows West Mill, First Avenue Southwest and Fifth Avenue Northwest.

Highway 59 and Highway 108 thru-traffic and truck detour routes remain in place, and vary depending on direction of travel.

Pelican Rapids businesses are open during construction. Residents and patrons should follow the signed detours for navigation in-town, both for motorists and pedestrians. To access businesses on the northeast side of town, please use Fifth Avenue Northeast.
To learn more about the project and to stay up-to-date on upcoming staging changes, progress and more, visit the project website at mndot.gov/d4/projects/pelicanrapids/, where you can sign up for email updates.

All construction activities and traffic impacts are weather dependent and subject to change. MnDOT urges motorists to always be attentive, drive with caution and slow down in work zones where workers are present.
