Four-way stop in place at I-35 and Hwy 60 in Faribault while signals replaced
FARIBAULT, Minn. – Motorists on the west side of the Interstate 35-Highway 60 interchange in Faribault (Exit 56) should be alert for a four-way stop while the traffic signals are replaced, according to the Minnesota Department of Transportation.
Motorists should see warning signs in advance of the change with “stop sign ahead” signing. The 4-foot tall stop signs also have orange flags on them to raise their prominence. The intersection is at the off- and on-ramps of southbound I-35, which are closed for construction. Traffic on Highway 60 and 30th Avenue Northwest use this intersection west of I-35.
The signals are being replaced with upgraded models and features. This work is expected to be completed by mid- to late-September. This work is part of the 2-year project I-35 Faribault repaving project that started in 2023. Work includes resurfacing 4.6 miles of I-35 in Rice County and improving ramps and bridges.
Last month, traffic changes were made as the project approaches full completion in late October.
- I-35 traffic is in the northbound lanes. I-35 southbound and northbound traffic each travel in a single lane, adjacent to each other.
- I-35 southbound on-ramps from Highway 21 and Highway 60 are closed. Traffic is detoured to use the on-ramp from Rice County Road 48.
- I-35 southbound off-ramp to Highway 60 is closed. Traffic exits at Highway 21 southbound to Highway 60.
Motorists should be alert for possible traffic slowdowns and backups, especially Friday-Sunday and other peak times. Signs are in place ahead of the work zone to warn of traffic slow downs and the approaching work zone.
