Lane closures Aug. 26-27 near Highway 14/Broadway Ave in Rochester
ROCHESTER, Minn. – Motorists who travel through the intersection of Highway 14 and Broadway Avenue in Rochester may encounter lane closures Aug. 26-27 while crews are conducting pavement tests to prepare for a future construction project, according to the Minnesota Department of Transportation.
Lane closures will occur near the work from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m., Monday and Tuesday. Traffic delays may occur at times because of the daily volume of vehicles that travel through this intersection. Work will take place in turn lanes and the shoulders of the roads. The closures will move as the work progresses each day to provide safety for the workers.
Construction is scheduled for this intersection in 2027. To learn more about the construction project and sign up for updates, go to the MnDOT project website.
Safety in work zones
Motorists should always be prepared to encounter traffic changes when approaching work zones including lane closures, lane shifts, uneven road surfaces, slow-moving heavy equipment and slow or stopped traffic. To keep everyone safe, drivers must:
- Obey posted speed limits. The fine for speeding in a work zone is $300.
- Drive undistracted. Avoid using cell phones, mobile devices, adjusting the radio – even eating –while in work zones.
- Move over. Give workers room to safely complete their work.
- Know before you go. Get real-time information about traffic and road conditions at www.511mn.org or get the free 511mn smartphone app at Google Play or the App Store.
- Be patient. Expect delays, especially during peak travel times.
- Do the zipper merge.
- Avoid making unnecessary lane changes.
- Never enter a road blocked with barriers or cones.
