Overnight lane closures on Interstate 94 in Moorhead start Sept. 3

DETROIT LAKES, Minn. – Starting Tuesday, Sept. 3, weather permitting, motorists traveling in the Moorhead area will encounter overnight lane closures in both directions on Interstate 94 between 7 p.m. and 6 a.m. each night, for approximately three weeks, according to the Minnesota Department of Transportation. Crews will be resurfacing all lanes in both directions between the Red River bridge and Highway 336.
The work is occurring during overnight hours to minimize traffic impacts in the Fargo-Moorhead area.

Crews will begin on westbound I-94 near Highway 336, starting in the right lane, working west. The operation will move approximately three miles per night in one direction. Once they reach the west end of the project near the Red River bridge, they’ll switch to the eastbound right lane, working east. Then, work will start on the left lanes; first westbound, then eastbound. Final striping will take place after all resurfacing work is completed.

Motorists should expect to encounter slow-moving mobile operations with reduced speeds, lane closures and periodic ramp closures in the areas where crews are working each night.

MnDOT urges motorists to always be attentive, drive with caution and slow down in work zones where workers are present. All construction activities and traffic impacts are weather dependent and subject to change.
Important reminders for motorists regarding work zone safety:

  • Slow down when approaching every work zone
  • Never enter a roadway that has been blocked with barriers or cones
  • Stay alert; watch for workers and slow-moving equipment
  • Obey posted speed limits. Fine for a violation in a work zone is $300
  • Minimize distractions behind the wheel
  • Be patient; expect delays, especially during peak travel times
