Hwy 11 project south of Indus begins Monday, Sept. 16

BEMIDJI, Minn. – Motorists traveling on Highway 11 south of Indus, Koochiching County, will encounter roadwork as crews begin to reconstruct the roadway Monday, Sept. 16, according to the Minnesota Department of Transportation.

MnDOT will move the highway further west of its current location, approximately 1.5 miles south of Indus. Work will be completed under traffic and motorists can expect minimal traffic impacts. When complete in late October, the project will improve the safety and drainage of Highway 11 near Rainy River.  MnDOT advises motorists to avoid distractions and drive with caution in the work zone.

The contractor for the $3.1 million project is KGM Contractors Inc.
Important reminders for motorists regarding work zone safety:

Slow down when approaching every work zone, then navigate through with care and caution.

  • Stay alert; work zones constantly change.
  • Watch for workers and slow-moving equipment.
  • Obey posted speed limits. Fine for a violation in a work zone is $300.
  • Minimize distractions behind the wheel.
  • Be patient; expect delays, especially during peak travel times.
