Mississippi River bridge closes four overnights in Monticello Sept. 18–25

ST. CLOUD, Minn. – The Minnesota Department of Transportation advises motorists to plan ahead and add time onto their commute as the Hwy 25 Mississippi River bridge in Monticello closes four overnights to complete concrete deck work Sept. 18–25.

Hwy 25 will close between River Street and Sherburne Co.Rd. 11/14 in Monticello at the bridge. Traffic will detour (Figure 1) via I-94 Monticello, Hwy 101 Rogers to Elk River and Hwy 10 Big Lake.

The closures are scheduled for:

Sept. 18–20

  • 8 p.m. Wednesday, Sept. 18, to 5 a.m. Thursday, Sept. 19
  • 8 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 19, to 5 a.m. Friday, Sept. 20

Sept. 23–25

  • 8 p.m. Monday, Sept. 23, to 5 a.m. Tuesday, Sept. 24
  • 8 p.m. Tuesday, Sept. 24, to 5 a.m. Wednesday, Sept. 25

Dry weather conditions are necessary to complete this work and the schedule is subject to change.

For current closure information: watch area work zone road signs; check www.511mn.org travel system; or visit the Hwy 25 project web page at www.mndot.gov/d3/projects/monticello/.

The southbound concrete wear course was replaced in mid-August, now the northbound deck surface.

Work on the Hwy 25 bridge continues, and the road remains one lane each way, 24-7 between Third Street and northeast of Sherburne Co. Rd. 11/14 through October 2024.

Travelers who commute frequently between I-94 in Monticello and Hwy 10 in Big Lake or Becker will want to consider alternate Mississippi River crossings in central Minnesota— Hwy 24 Clear Lake to Clearwater to the north and Hwy 101 Elk River to Rogers to the south.

When complete in late October, the $2.6 million bridge improvement project will provide travelers with a smoother ride, widened sidewalks and updated storm water drainage on Hwy ighway 25.
