New Highway 212 roundabout in Glencoe opens to traffic Sept. 13

WILLMAR, Minn. – The new Highway 212 roundabout at Morningside Drive in Glencoe will open to traffic on Sept. 13, according to the Minnesota Department of Transportation. Crews will begin removing detour barriers tomorrow morning and all-way access should be available by midday.

The single-lane roundabout was a joint project between MnDOT, McLeod County, and the city of Glencoe. Work included the addition of ADA-accessible sidewalks and a multiuse trail on all sides of the roundabout.

Crews will complete punch list items following the road opening, and travelers are asked to be alert for workers and equipment.

The road opening is subject to change depending on weather and other unforeseeable circumstances.

Project benefits and cost

Benefits of the project include improved traffic flow, and enhanced safety for drivers and pedestrians. The roundabout will slow vehicle speeds and lower the risk of serious and fatal crashes. Mathiowetz Construction is the contractor, and the project cost is approximately $5.1 million.
