I-94 traffic shift, lane and ramp closures in Washington County begin Sept. 18

Roseville, Minn. – Motorists will encounter new lane and ramp closures on Interstate 94 between Oakdale and Woodbury as crews shift traffic into the final stage of pavement resurfacing, according to the Minnesota Department of Transportation.  Beginning at 7 p.m. on Wednesday, Sept. 18, crews will reduce eastbound I-94 between Highway 120/Century Avenue and Woodbury Drive/Keats Avenue N. to a single lane. Starting at 5 a.m. the next day, Thursday, Sept. 19, traffic will shift to three lanes until late October. Motorists will need to choose a lane, if they want to exit.

Crews will also temporarily close the following eastbound I-94 ramps starting at 7 p.m. on Wednesday, Sept. 18 through 5 a.m. Saturday, Sept. 21:

  • The eastbound I-94 ramps to/from Radio Drive/Inwood Avenue N.
  • The eastbound I-94 ramps to/from Woodbury Drive/Keats Avenue N.

The Radio Drive/Inwood Avenue N. and Woodbury Drive/Keats Avenue N. ramp closures are necessary to pave the section of road that connects the interstate ramps. Crews will reopen each ramp as soon as the pavement has cured. Motorists wanting to exit eastbound I-94 in this area will need to either exit early at the Highway 120/Century Avenue exit or use the Highway 95 south/Manning Avenue exit.

The following I-94/I-494/I-694 interchange ramps will reopen to traffic at 7 p.m. on Wednesday, Sept. 18:

  • The ramp from eastbound I-94 to northbound I-694
  • The ramp from southbound I-494 to eastbound I-94

Simultaneously, crews will close the following I-94/I-494/I-694 interchange ramps until the middle of October:

  • The ramp from northbound I-494 to eastbound I-94.
    • Bypass the closure using northbound I-494/I-694, 10th Street N., southbound I-694, and eastbound I-94.

  • The ramp from eastbound I-94 to southbound I-494.
    • Bypass the closure using eastbound I-94, northbound I-694, 10th Street N., and southbound I-694/I-494.

Finally, the Tamarack Road to southbound I-494 and northbound I-494 to Tamarack Road ramps are expected to reopen to traffic by the end of the day on Friday, Sept. 20.

All construction activities and traffic impacts are weather dependent and subject to change. MnDOT urges motorists to always be attentive, drive with caution and slow down in work zones where workers are present.

MnDOT is resurfacing the pavement and making other improvements to I-94 between Highway 120/Century Avenue and the St. Croix River through fall 2024. The work will improve safety, traffic flow and ride smoothness.
