Faribault traffic signal replacement begins Sept. 23 at Hwy 21/7th Street NW

FARIBAULT, Minn. – Motorists traveling in Faribault will encounter construction work at Highway 21 and 7th Street NW beginning Sept. 23 as crews replace traffic signals and make other improvements, according to the Minnesota Department of Transportation.

This work is a change in the original schedule. The Highway 21 and 7th Street NW intersection work was originally scheduled for 2025, and it has been moved to 2024. Improvements at the Highway 60 and Western Avenue intersection were originally scheduled for this year. It has been postponed to 2025. Improvements at the Highway 60 and 3rd Street NE intersection are also scheduled for 2025.

Work at Highway 21 and 7th Street NW includes replacing the signals, expanding westbound 7th Street NW to include left and right turn lanes, converting 7th Street NW eastbound to a left turn and thru/right lanes, adding pedestrian crossings on the east and north approaches and making Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) improvements. Work is expected to be completed in November.

Traffic impacts are expected to be minimal. The current traffic signals are expected to stay operational during the project. There will not be detours. The right turn lanes on 7th Street will be closed, but motorists will be able to turn right onto Highway 21 from the driving lanes.

This work is part of a two-year signal and intersection improvements project at three state highway locations in Faribault. It will replace traffic signals and make ADA improvements and changes to vehicle turning and through movements to increase intersection safety.
