Begins Sept. 23: Eastbound Interstate 94 reduced to two lanes in Albertville
Work part of the I-94 Gap project—Monticello to Albertville
ST. CLOUD, Minn. – Motorists who travel on eastbound I-94 in Albertville will encounter the left lane closed between Wright County Road 19 and County Road 137 as crews begin work in the median Monday evening, Sept. 23, reports the Minnesota Department of Transportation.
Eastbound I-94 will to be reduced to two lanes, 24-7, each week from 7 p.m. Monday, to 5 a.m. Sunday, until mid-October (up to four weeks). All three lanes will be open at peak hours on Sundays.
Crews continue to prepare the work zone, which includes temporary lane widening and median crossovers. Motorists will encounter periodic lane closures on both directions of I-94 through fall 2024. The lane closures will occur at off-peak hours, mainly overnights between 7 p.m. and 5 a.m.
Major construction will take place spring 2025 to fall 2026. Overall, I-94 will remain open to two lanes, each direction, on one side of the interstate as crews construct the adjacent side.
When all six lanes open in fall 2026, the project will provide a smoother ride, extend the life of the interstate, improve freight access, increase capacity and reduce bottle necks, address area growth and improve motorist safety along I-94.
