77th Ave./Brooklyn Blvd./Elm Creek Blvd. bridge over Hwy 169 reopens

ROSEVILLE, Minn. –  The Minnesota Department of Transportation reopened the bridge carrying 77th Avenue/Brooklyn Blvd./Elm Creek Blvd. traffic over Highway 169 just before 12 noon today. The bridge, located on the border of Brooklyn Park and Maple Grove, was struck by a backhoe being hauled by a dump truck around 10 a.m. Monday, Oct. 7. Several concrete beams on the north side of the bridge sustained significant damage, which led to immediate closure of the bridge. An in-depth inspection of the structure by MnDOT bridge engineers later that day determined the bridge could be safely reopened with restrictions, including restricting overweight vehicles.

The bridge was reopened with two lanes on the eastbound (south) side and one westbound lane. The far north side of the bridge is closed off with concrete median barrier. Traffic will remain restricted across the bridge until repairs can be made sometime next spring. Highway 169 traffic is not affected and the ramps to and from Highway 169 remain open at each end of the bridge.

All construction activities and traffic impacts are weather and schedule permitting and subject to change.
