Northbound I-35W ramp closure in Minneapolis begins Oct. 28
I-94 also reduced to two lanes through late November
ROSEVILLE, Minn. – Starting at 5 a.m. on Monday, Oct. 28 until Friday, Nov. 29, the Minnesota Department of Transportation will close the ramp from northbound Interstate 35W to eastbound Interstate 94. Both directions of I-94 will also be reduced to two lanes between 11th Avenue South and Franklin Avenue Southeast. Motorists can bypass the ramp closure using northbound I-35W, eastbound Highway 36, southbound I-35E, and I-94.
The lane and ramp closures are necessary to allow crews to construct crossovers that motorists can use in 2025 when MnDOT begins maintenance work on five bridges along I-94 between downtown Minneapolis and the Franklin Avenue bridge that crosses I-94. These bridges include:
- I-94 bridge (Dartmouth Bridge) that spans the Mississippi River
- Riverside Avenue bridge over I-94
- I-94 over Cedar Avenue
- I-94 over the Light Rail Transit (Blue Line)
- I-94 over Highway 55/Hiawatha Avenue
During construction in 2025, motorists can expect I-94 to be reduced to two lanes in each direction between Highway 55/Hiawatha Avenue and the Franklin Avenue bridge over I-94. Crews will also need to temporarily close ramps along I-94 at Huron Boulevard, Riverside Avenue, Cedar Avenue, and 6th and 7th streets near downtown Minneapolis. When construction is completed in fall 2025, five bridges along I-94 will have a smoother and safer riding surface.
All construction activities and traffic impacts are weather and schedule permitting and subject to change.
