Hwy 67 reopens in Clarkfield Oct. 24 as reconstruction project nears completion
WILLMAR, Minn. – Highway 67 will reopen in Clarkfield on Thursday, Oct. 24, as the six-month reconstruction project nears completion, according to the Minnesota Department of Transportation. The detour and all barriers are expected to be removed by the end of the day tomorrow, weather permitting.
Crews will be onsite intermittently until all punch list items are completed, and travelers are asked to be alert for workers and equipment. Due to dry conditions, crews will return in the spring to seed all areas that were disturbed during construction. The green and black bio-rolls positioned behind concrete walkways where disturbances have occurred serve as an erosion control measure. These will remain in place until next spring, allowing sufficient time for vegetation to be established.
Project summary
Hwy 67 was reconstructed from Hwy 59 to 6th Street and storm sewer replacement was included in the project. Sidewalks were replaced, and pedestrian ramps installed to meet Americans with Disabilities Act standards. In addition to the Hwy 67 project, BNSF Railway replaced track through the intersection of Highway 67 and Hwy 59 during the MnDOT project.
Benefits of the project include a smoother road surface, improved storm sewer system and drainage, updated pedestrian crossings, as well as a state and city infrastructure that will continue to serve their purpose for many years. R and G Construction is the contractor, and the project cost is approximately $4.7 million.
