No travel advisory lifted for all state highways in South Central Minnesota; icy roads remain
MANKATO, Minn. – (6 p.m.) The Minnesota Department of Transportation has lifted its No Travel Advisory for all state highways in South Central Minnesota.
State highways in Blue Earth, Brown, Nicollet, and Watonwan counties had been under a no travel advisory since Wednesday afternoon due to blowing snow and reduced visibility. Visibility has improved; however, many roads remain ice and slush covered and are slippery. Motorists are advised to reduce speed and drive according to conditions.
Motorists should check www.511mn.org before traveling and remember to:
- Stay alert for snowplows, which turn or exit frequently and often with little warning. They also may travel over centerlines or partially in traffic to further improve road conditions.
- Stay back at least 10 car lengths behind the plow. Don’t drive into a snow cloud.
- Slow down to a safe speed for current conditions.
- Turn on your headlights and wear your seat belt.
- Turn off the cruise control.
- Be patient and remember snowplows are working to improve road conditions for your trip.
- Don’t drive distracted.
