2026 positions
Planning at MnDOT
Our planning responsibilities consist of a range of activities. These include writing plans, conducting public and stakeholder outreach, data analysis, setting and managing the program to performance outcomes, and forming the capital investment program.
Goals and objectives
We seek to achieve the following goals through our Planning Internship Program:
- Expose potential candidates to state-level, system-wide transportation planning
- Encourage partnerships and develop connections with educational institutions
- Provide new energy and fresh perspectives into the work conducted at the agency
- Expose MnDOT to new talent in the transportation planning field
- Develop a diverse pool of professionals with experience in state-level transportation planning
Logistics
The MnDOT Planning Internship Program runs from May through August. This internship is available for up to a 12-week, full-time appointment with flexible start date and schedule. The positions pay between $23.98 to $34.69 per hour.

Eligibility
Minimum qualifications for the MnDOT internship program are described below. Desired qualifications are listed for each position description.
- A master’s or bachelor’s degree in planning, geography, urban studies, sociology, political science, or a closely related field (candidates who will obtain a Bachelor's degree by the position start date are also eligible.) or one year of professional transportation planning experience.
- Eligible to work in the United States
