Hwy 53 – Eveleth Intersection Improvements

Summary of work

Safety improvements are being evaluated at Bourgin Road, Progress Parkway and Hat Trick Avenue intersections. The improvements will take into account the new schools being constructed to the east of Hwy 53.

Roundabout education

The Utah DOT Traffic and Safety division produced an informational video on roundabouts. It showcases the benefits of roundabouts (especially the safety benefit) to a wide variety of audiences. Roundabouts are not the perfect solution at all intersections, however, in the right locations, roundabouts can be a very safe and efficient way to move not just motor vehicles but pedestrians and bicyclists, too.

Public meetings

MnDOT and St. Louis County are hosting a public meeting on Monday, Sept. 23, in the Rock Ridge High School Athletic Commons, 1403 Progress Parkway, Virginia, to give an update on the 2025 construction planned on Hwy 53 in Eveleth. Doors open at 5 p.m., and a presentation will begin at 5:30 p.m.
