Design concepts
MnDOT is currently designing the layout. The most recent draft layout can be found here: Draft Layout 11-24-2020
Below are three design concepts for Hwy 169 from Broadway Ave. to Union St., developed in 2019. Feedback received from St. Peter city staff, city council, and the community was taken into consideration as MnDOT moves forward with a preferred alternative and drafting the layout.
Concept #1 - Pavement preservation
- Concept #1 Layout (PDF 3,492 KB)
- Short-term pavement fix to improve road surface and ride quality
- Beyond new pavement, no visible difference in the layout of the roadway
Concept #2 - 14-foot median
- Concept #2 Layout (PDF 3,377 KB)
- Long-term pavement fix within existing curb & gutter (lane width remains the same)
- Dedicated left turn lanes added at Skaro St. and Ramsey St.
- 14’ raised median added
- Creates a traffic calming effect to aid in naturally slowing traffic down
- Provides a refuge for pedestrian crossings
Concept #3 - 18-foot median
- Concept #3 Layout (PDF 3,374 KB)
- Long-term pavement fix with widening of roadway 2’ on both sides
- Dedicated left turn lanes added at Skaro St. and Ramsey St.
- 18’ raised median added
- Creates a traffic calming effect to aid in naturally slowing traffic down
- Provides a refuge for pedestrian crossings
- “3/4 Intersection” design at Ramsey St.
- No left turn access onto Hwy 169
- Increases highway safety
