Allow extra travel time on Hwy 23 from Holland to Florence Aug. 8 - 30
WILLMAR, Minn. – Highway 23 travelers should allow extra travel time from Holland to Florence beginning Aug. 8, according to the Minnesota Department of Transportation. Crews will be resurfacing the roadway as part of the Highway 23 Pipestone to Russell bridge and resurfacing project. Paving this section of Highway 23 is expected to be completed by Aug. 30.
Travel impacts and detours
- Aug. 8 - 30, Highway 23 will be reduced to one lane from 171st Street (one mile east of Holland) to Highway 14 near Florence. A flagging operation and pilot car will direct traffic through the work zone. Travelers are encouraged to allow extra travel time, use caution, and expect delays.
Two detours are required to complete the bridge projects (see maps below).
- A detour for the Florence culvert replacement began June 3 and will be in place until Aug. 23. Traffic is routed to Highways 91 and 14.
- Starting Aug. 26, a detour for the Pipestone bridge deck replacement will be in place until the project concludes Nov. 1. Traffic will be routed to Highway 75 and Pipestone County Road 8.
Dates are subject to change depending on weather and other unforeseeable circumstances.
